Trauma Therapy: Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)

One of the most researched and effective treatments for PTSD is Prolonged Exposure Therapy, or PE. PE is a treatment I love to offer in my practice because you get to see results quickly, and who doesn’t want that?!

PTSD is a disorder that limits what you can do comfortably. Because of this, people tend to avoid things they used to be comfortable doing. While this makes sense in the short run, over time this avoidance just serves to make PTSD worse. Eventually, it takes over more and more of your life, making you more and more avoidant of people, places, activities, thoughts, memories, and things that become “triggers” in your everyday life. The more that you avoid, the worse the disorder becomes, so you avoid more, and feel worse, and it’s an exhausting and maddening cycle.

PE is a therapy designed to help you stop avoiding things in your daily life, enabling you to be comfortable living your life again! Yes, the changes we will work on will be difficult at first. However, if you stick with it, you will be amazed to see the control you can regain over your life!

Check out the video below to hear me talk about PE as a treatment, who might benefit from it, how it works, and what to expect. If you’d like to contact me to see if we are a good fit for therapy, please do so here. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation prior to scheduling an appointment.
