Meet Marcella Cameron Meyer
PhD, MSW, LISW-S (OH), LCSW (KY)
My name is Marcy. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker with over 25 professional years serving grieving individuals affected by loss or trauma. I am sorry that you find yourself in that category. I am especially sorry for what you are going through trying to adjust to this strange new world after what has happened to you. Grief is so much more than missing a person we love. It can rock our whole world, even change who we thought we were. Others might be saying to you, “I just want the old you back.” That can feel overwhelming and frustrating when you know you are different after this experience.
You might also be wondering, “why can’t I handle this?” There is nothing wrong with you. Something big has happened and it can take time to process. It might take tools that you have never had to use before.
I truly believe we are capable of growth after loss or trauma. It just takes intention and some work. I am happy to help you identify how loss has impacted your life and what goals you would like to set. I have no doubt that you can restore balance and even find peace.
The prospect of counseling can feel scary, but I trust you will find our time together to be very comfortable – a safe and casual space. My goal is to make counseling strategies accessible and easy to fit into your life.
Specialty Areas
- Death of a child of any age, from perinatal loss to loss of an adult child
- Infertility
- Death of a loved one from difficult or traumatic circumstances
- Death of a significant loved one, regardless of relationship – only you know who is important to you.
My Background
As an undergraduate I took a Death and Dying Course that inspired my future career goals. I knew after that course that I wanted to work in the field of death. It wasn’t until later that I realized my role would be to support the grievers. I went on to obtain my Masters in Social Work from the University of Cincinnati in 1996 and have been working with hospices or hospitals ever since counseling grieving parents, children, spouses, siblings, friends, classmates, coworkers, and so on. I later received my PhD in Sociology, with research and teaching interests in grief, loss, death and dying.
I provide individual and group psychotherapy, primarily online. My area of specialization is grief and loss, specifically loss of a child (from perinatal loss to adult child), infertility, loss of a significant other or spouse, death of a loved one from difficult or traumatic circumstances, and supporting children, teens or young adults who are grieving.
I currently hold licenses in the states of Ohio and Kentucky and can provide therapy to anyone physically located in these states at the time services are provided.
My approach is a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness Techniques.
